As a realtor, I can’t remember the last time I went 24 hours without checking emails and messages. Client calls, texts and emails come at me multiple times a day and at all different times. With the ease in technology, I know that modern real estate is very different than it used to be. Clients want answers, and they want them now and I am happy to accommodate. These days deals are done while driving (thanks Tesla), flying or vacationing on a resort somewhere.
To my surprise, I woke up this morning and looked at my calendar and it was blank!!! I love days like these because it gives me a break and allows me to blog, update my website or do other things that are left forgotten in the daily hustle and bustle of my days.
Real estate is a wonderful and rewarding profession, but not like what you see on Netflix’s show Selling Sunset. There is a lot of problem-solving, negotiating, hand-holding and guiding. You have to know when to push and when to take your losses. Yesterday I spent 2 hours of my day driving to and from a property closing soon and I wanted to ensure that a water leak issue in the basement was properly dealt with.
I’ve had a lot of agents reach out to me to ask if I have advice on what they should do when they start. Here is what I would say: The market doesn’t need more part-time, halfway engaged agents, which means you need to decide if you’re just interested in this career path because of something you saw on tv, or if you’re committed to it. Those who succeed in this business are fully committed to doing everything in their power to succeed and to provide today’s modern customer with a seamless, five-star experience from start to finish. Understand that real estate sales are not an “overnight success” type of business. There is no easy job/career. You’re starting a five-year marathon, not a sprint and success takes time and disciplined action.
So here I sit, writing this blog and thinking of the next thing I could catch up on or errands I could run. Make no mistake though, if someone calls today and wants to see a property, I’ll jump and be on my way before they’ve even hung up the phone! I’m never too busy for my clients!
